Liferea is GTK feed reader for online news feeds. Liferea is specially designed for GNU/Linux systems making it fast ,easy to use and easy to install for GTK/Gnome. This news aggregator released in 2003 has been making waves ever since its release. Learn how to install Liferea in a few simple steps.

INSTALLATION

  • Ubuntu: Open Ubuntu Software Center and enter liferea in the search box and click install.
  • OpenSUSE: Liferea comes by default with openSUSE 12.1.
  • Arch Linux: Open terminal and enter
sudo pacman -S liferea

Install

INITIAL STAGES

To begin with, open liferea and immediately you are presented with a GUI. From the GUI you can add new subscriptions by specifying the URL. You can do this by just clicking the New Subscription button and entering the URL. By default you are subscribed to certain feeds from different categories.

IMPORTING FROM OTHER SOURCES

Liferea currently supports importing from 3 sources: Google reader, TinyTiny RSS,and Planet/Blogroll/OPML.

You can import from these sources by

Subscriptions → New Source

You can export your feed List as a OPML file

Subscriptions → Export Feed List

You can import the OPML file

Subscriptions → Import Feed List

In this way it is easier to share your feed list with your friends. 

VERDICT

Liferea is a minimalistic blog reader with various options to import from other sources. Now you don't have to worry about switching from your old reader. With Liferea you can also work offline, specify feed cache and feed update settings. Very impressive and extremely simple to use.So why don't you go ahead and give it a shot?
