Making a video ad is not as simple as it seems. It’s not just about having a product or service and showing its features. Sure, you can get away with that if you have a multimillion-dollar business that is already successful.

Chances are that if you’re clicking on this link then you don’t have that sort of success – and I don’t mean that in an offensive way. The whole purpose of this article is to assist you in your growth and to help you leverage these ads.

Anyway, here are some of my best tips to ensure you have a good video ad:

1. Personalize your video

Showing your product or service is not going to be enough. You need to show yourself as well, your employees, etc. When I started my first ever business in search engine optimization, I was so scared to show off my face to people. Since I’ve always been introverted, it was really hard for me to show my face without being nervous or worried or shy. As soon as I started showing my face, my client list grew.

This was because people started connecting with me better once they realized I wasn’t just a faceless company like every other SEO company was at the time. Even just being a friend to them will help a ton. People like people. People don’t like robots. Just be a person, with a face, and with a personality and an opinion. You’ll be surprised how many people out there will like you and will appreciate what you’re doing and will work with you.

2. Focus on quality, not quantity

Keep it short and sweet! You don’t need to show everything there is to your product. Don’t make it too short though, just keep it entertaining for the viewer. Remember, if you’re selling a product or service there’s usually just one focal point to something. For example, if you’re selling a back scratcher, the focus should be purely on how well it scratches your back, not how amazing the handle is or where it was made or whatever else.

On top of that, don’t focus too much on how well presented it is – there are tons of video editing programs out there now that make it so easy to make very professional looking videos that are perfect for ads. For most of my ads, I have used online video editing tools such as InVideo that have made professional looking video ads very easily. There are countless YouTubers who use this tool and people love their videos. I dare you to message a few YouTubers and ask them where they make their videos and how they do it, I guarantee 1/5 of them are using this exact tool.

I’ve also been working with freelancers a lot during my time, and I’ve figured out that many freelancers offer their video editing services for over $100 an hour and they go and make the videos on InVideo. I suggest you learn this tool and do it yourself or look for a freelancer who does this and is open about it so you can charge them a much cheaper price. InVideo is a tool that is completely overlooked and needs to be taken advantage of by more content creators around the world. We like to work smarter, not harder.

3. Include a call to action

A call to action (or CTA) is very important. At the end of the video, you should always end it with a CTA. For example, if you’re selling a product, the end message of the video should always be to ask the viewer to purchase the product.

It doesn’t have to be direct – it can be in an indirect way like: “Don’t just think about scratching your back, click on the link and check out our back scratcher today”. Believe me, this makes a huge impact. Through a CTA, my ad conversion rate improved by about 15%. This means for every 100 sales, I was making an additional 15 sales by just including a sentence.

4. Look professional

I guess this depends on what type of business you’re in – but if you’re a B2B business or a high end B2C business, professional clothing makes a huge difference. Don’t wear what you would wear going out with your friends or something like that. Wear something that represents your business in a professional way. People want to associate with companies that

5. Buy a good microphone

This made by far the biggest difference in making my ads look more professional. I invested in a cheap phone microphone for less than $100 and the videos I ended up making sounded ten times better. The microphone gives much clearer sound than any other ordinary video recording and communicates your message a lot better. I’d highly recommend investing in one.

I strongly suggest though, avoiding all the cheap microphones you can find on Wish and Alibaba, as we have tried these, and realized that 90% of the, it’s not only a waste of money but it’s also a waste of time waiting the 20 days shipping time it takes to reach you, only for you to figure out that when you turn it on, you hear nothing but static and it’s unfixable.

Conclusion

it’s crucial you buy a good microphone, look professional, include call to actions, focus on quality and personalize your videos if you would like to improve your video advertisements on whichever platform this may be. These are only some tips you can follow.

If you haven’t followed any or some of these tips, make sure to implement them, they’ll improve your video ads a ton. We always give information based on personal experiences, in no way am I saying these are the only ways to improve your video ads or that these tips 100% work. I’m only trying to say that these steps really helped us with our video ads and that they might also help you.
