Windows Media Player is a product of Microsoft Corporation and it is exclusively made of Windows operating system only. There is no Free version of the Windows Media Player available as of now. But there is always good alternatives for Windows Media Player, like XBMC Media Center, Boxee and many other in the world of Free and Open Source Softwares.
But those newly converted Ubuntu users, who want to have a Windows Media Player at any cost in their Ubuntu machine, the least you can do is theming your VLC player and make it look like the latest version of Windows Media Player. VLC player inherently is a really good media player with very high levels of functionality. Take a look at the screenshots below.
- First goto System->Administration->Synaptic Package Manager and install VLC media player, if you haven't intsalled VLC player in your Ubuntu machine as yet.
- Now download the Windows Media Player skin. Also check the different Skins available for VLC.
- Open VLC and press Ctrl+P or select Tools->Preferences. Following window will open up.

- As you can see here, from the Interface tab, select the second option Skins and browse to the file you have just downloaded. That is all you need to do. Check the screenshot below to know the how VLC player looks like with the Windows Media Player theme.

- Though it lacks the functionality of a Windows Media Player, it definitely looks just like Windows Media Player ;-).
