Audio Preview in Nautilus in Ubuntu

Most of us might have heard about the picture preview plugin in different file browsers like explorer in WIndows or nautilus  in GNU/Linux. But you probably haven't heard about audio preview plugin with Nautilus. Yes, you heard it right. Interested?  Then read along.

  • Audio preview plugin is available by default with Nautilus in Ubuntu 8.04 and now with the latest, Ubuntu 8.10. All you need to do is, move your cursor on top of some audio file and tats it ! The audio file  will start playing right away.
  • If you are using Ubuntu 7.10 or less, Install the following packages.        

      sudo aptitude install mpg321 vorbis-tool

Normally, the music will play for some 30 seconds. If you are a music buff, this is going to help you a lot. Trust me ;-) have fun \m/
