Candidates selected after passing the PO exam have to sustain a probation period of two years. The performance of the candidate during the probation period is assessed by the management; qualified candidates will be given the post of Junior Management Grade Scale1. After considering their performance, work culture, and other factors, they are promoted to a higher posts. They can be promoted to deputy manager, manager, chief manager, assistant general manager, deputy general manager, general manager, and chief general manager.
Job profile
If you are selected after the SBI PO exam, you are entitled to the highest basic salary in the industry. Moreover, you would be entitled to other perks and allowance other than basic pay. The job profile of an SBI probationary officer is to supervise clerical activities, resolve customer grievances, open savings and current accounts, process loans, and other duties. During the training period, you will learn about various aspects of retail and rural banking. Apart from onsite training, guidance is provided at the SBI training institute. Initially, you are absorbed as Junior Management Grade Scale1, but after successful completion of the probation period and assessment, you would be promoted as Officer Middle Management Grade Scale-II.
3Phases
The PO exam has three phases; prelim, mains, and interview. The cut-off score is determined by the recruiting board. If you qualify in the prelim, then you would be called for mains and interviews. The final merit list is based on the main and interview round. There are three papers in the prelim round; English, reasoning, and quantitative aptitude. Hundred objective questions are asked in this round with a total mark of a hundred. For every wrong answer, 1/4th mark is deducted. But marks obtained in this round would not be considered while preparing the merit list. Quantitative and reasoning paper consists of thirty questions, thirty –five total marks on each, English language consists of thirty questions total mark is thirty. The duration of this round is one hour.
The merit list is drawn on the basis of aggregate marks, with no sectional cut-off. Almost ten times, candidates appear in the vacancy posts. Top performers are shortlisted for the main exam.
Objective and descriptive
There are objective and descriptive questions in the main exam. The allotted time for the objective paper is three hours. For descriptive questions, thirty minutes is provided. In the objective section, there are four parts; data analysis and interpretation, reasoning and computer aptitude, English language, and general/economy/banking awareness. You have to complete the descriptive section along with objective questions. Though the ¼th mark is deducted for an erroneous answer, no mark is subtracted if you leave the answer blank. The English language consists of thirty-five questions with a total mark of forty. Reasoning and computer aptitude come with forty-five questions with a total mark of sixty. Data analysis and interpretation have thirty-five questions with a total mark of sixty. General/economy/banking awareness has forty questions with a total of forty marks.
The descriptive section consists of two questions with a mark of fifty. Total marks for the main exam are two hundred –fifty with a time duration of three and a half-hour. You have to crack SBI PO main exam for the interview round.
