Pidgin is among the most popular chat clients among others in Gnu/Linux. It is multiplatform and you can use Pidgin with different protocols like yahoo, gtalk, irc and the list goes on.

Pidgin is an open source multiplatform internet chat client. It is one of most widely used chat client among Linux users. In Ubuntu, it comes as default installation and with its easy-to-use interface, is an instant hit among the newbie Ubuntu users. But pidgin has its share a drawbacks as well. The non availability of good emoticons like that in Yahoo or MSN messenger being one among the major drawbacks. But we do have a work around here. You could install Yahoo and MSN messenger emoticons in Pidgin. Here is how the installation works.

Installing Internet Explorer for Linux distros is still not an easy thing to do, especially for the newer versions, say, IE7 or IE8. Firefox is an open source alternative which is not only a better web browser but also a more secure one as well. Mostly you will have to install IE in your linux machine for some testing purposes or because some sites dont show up properly in browsers other than IE. If that is the reason for you to install IE in Ubuntu, IEs4Linux is the way out.

If you have updated Ubuntu 8.10 recently, and after the completion of update, when you try to start firefox you would probably end up getting the following error message "Could not find compatible GRE between version 1.9b3 and 1.9b3". This is a small bug with the recent firefox updates. But there is an easy work around. Take a look.

Ubuntu 8.10 comes with an all new network manager. It has many improvemnets  over the previous one. Connecting to Internet through mobile phone via GPRS and EDGE has become so easy a thing in this new Gnome-Network-Manager. But it came with some issues too. It got a lot of flak for its inability to save the Static IP. When you edit the default  "Auto eth0 " for static IP, it simply resets to its default mode everytime when you reboot. Moreover, it was such a pain to share files through LAN. But a simple tweak can help you save the day. Read along.
