If you dislike your current computer name or you came up with a new computer name that is not arid as the previous one; changing it, is a matter of just few minutes.

The computer name in the new Ubunu 11.10 can be changed in the following steps:

1. Access terminal. Goto dash Home. Type 'terminal' in the search space. Click on  the 'terminal' icon. OR simply  press Ctrl-Alt-T

2. Type the following command in the terminal:

sudo gedit  /etc/hostname

You might be asked to type in your computer password.

3. In the gedit file that appears, type in your desired computer name and save it.

4. Go to your terminal again and run the following command:

sudo gedit  /etc/hosts     

This will open your hosts gedit file.

5. In the hosts file, erase the old name in the second line and type in your new computer name in  its place. Then save it in the same way as before.

So thats all! Now , restart your system. Your new computer name appears!
