Linux Mint dethrones Ubuntu

Posted in:News

We have said it earlier in our post. Will Linux Mint outdo the popularity of Ubuntu? and it seems we were right. Linux Mint is finally starting to beat Ubuntu in popularity.

Sometimes called "The Ubuntu done right" by many people, Linux mint is starting to look more popular, atleast by the statisitcs showed by Distrowatch - the first place you would look for if you want to look for a Linux Distro and of course the popularity of a Linux Distro.

The statistics show that Ubuntu has fallen into second place. However this does not mean that Linux Mint has more users than Ubuntu. It just means that the number of queries for Ubuntu has started to be surpassed with those of Ubuntu.

This could be an indication that more and more people are dissatisfied with the way Ubuntu is now moving towards. Unity did not click well with many purists of Ubuntu and GNU/Linux in general and Linux Mint has improved certain aspects of Ubuntu.

Of course Linux Mint would not have reached where they are now without Ubuntu and we guess it is good for all the GNU/Linux distros involved and GNU/Linux in general and we feel that it is a cycle repeating - the way with Debian and Ubuntu.

Still we are puzzled by the peculiar behavior of Google trends that seemingly shows that The popularity of Linux is actually decreasing when everything says that it is actually increasing or could some other factors be at play like perhaps, Android??

The brains or the lack of it behind Ubuntu Manual. Crazy about Linux, hates windows except for the fact that it runs many of his favorite games by default. Loves blogging
