IE Losing Market Share Rapidly to Firefox - Says Study

IE is losing its market share rapidly according to data by webmetrics firm Net Applications. IE had seen almost 11 percentage drop in market share in the period 2008-09. And look who is gaining. Google Chrome and Safari is steadily increasing its market share. But the biggest gainer is obviously the open source stalwart Firefox.

While market leader IE's market share fell by almost 11 percentage during the period 2008-09, Firefox grew almost twice as much as the IE's drop in market share. Firefox grew by around 22 percentage during the same period. That is an astounding feat when you consider the fact that IE had a major release in the form of IE8 in the same period.

Firefox 3.5 means a lot

Firefox has already released a second release candidate for its upcoming Firefox 3.5, almost a year after another major release, Firefox 3.0. You can install Firefox 3.5RC2 in Ubuntu for testing purposes, though we recommend you to wait until the official release of Firefox 3.5. This new version was originally branded as Firefox 3.1, but to better reflect the kind of improvements and features in this new edition, Firefox 3.1 was renamed Firefox 3.5.

Some of the new features include improved tab functionality, private browsing etc. and this new version Firefox is said to be almost eight times faster than Firefox 3.0. Now thats called improvement. Get a preview on the host of improvements you get in new Firefox 3.5.
