Installing Yahoo Messenger Emoticons For Pidgin in Ubuntu

Pidgin is an open source multiplatform internet chat client. It is one of most widely used chat client among Linux users. In Ubuntu, it comes as default installation and with its easy-to-use interface, is an instant hit among the newbie Ubuntu users. But pidgin has its share a drawbacks as well. The non availability of good emoticons like that in Yahoo or MSN messenger being one among the major drawbacks. But we do have a work around here. You could install Yahoo and MSN messenger emoticons in Pidgin. Here is how the installation works.

Installing Emoticons in Pidgin

  • Open Pidgin and goto Tools-> Preferences

                  

  • From the Preferences tab, select the Smiley Themes tab.

                  

  •  Click the ADD button and got to the directory where you have downloaded your emoticons zip(.tar.gz) file, and open it.
     
  • Now, a new entry will be displayed on your Smiley Themes tab. Click on it to enable Yahoo smileys for Pidgin.
