How to install KDE 4.1 along with gnome in Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex
K Desktop environment or simply KDE is one of the most popular desktop environments in GNU/Linux along with Gnome. KDE is widely aknowledged for its fast and developer friendly features. KDE 4 is the current series of releases for KDE. KDE is a complete overhaul of the desktop environment. The initial release looked stunning, but it was quite buggy and many devote users stayed on with KDE 3 series. All that is changing with KDE4.1. Its a huge leap with more features and less bugs. It is surely the way forward. Listed below are steps required to install KDE 4.1 in Ubuntu with Gnome as its DE.
- GOTO system->administration->synaptic packager manager and search for the package kubuntu-desktop
- Mark it for installation and install the package.
- You could also install it using the command line option.GOTO applications->accessories->terminal and type as follows
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
- After installation is completed, restart the system. In the login screen click on the session option and you will see a new menu item called KDE. Simply select the option to use KDE version of Ubuntu ,ie Kubuntu.
