WinRar is a robust archive manager. Its applications varies from reducing the size of email attachements to decompressing RAR and ZIP compression formats. WinRar is a popular application in Windows. Obviously it is the primary concern of newly converted linux users. The default decompression software available in ubuntu itself is really good and can be used to decompress rar file format as well.
To install RAR in ubuntu or any other debian based systems, there are two ways. One is a simple command line option,
- Goto terminal and type the following to install WinRAR
sudo apt-get install rar
OR
You could also install it from synaptic package manager.
- Goto System->Administration->Synaptic Package Manager
Then search for the package named rar . Right click and mark for installation. Then Apply. You will have rar installed on your system by now. enjoy !
